Human Design is a unique and complex system of astrology that combines elements from the I Ching, Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin Chakra system, and conventional astrology to form a distinct metaphysical system that offers profound insights into human behavior and our potential. Developed by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, Human Design provides a map, known as a bodygraph, that reveals how we are each uniquely designed to navigate the world. This map outlines our psychological, emotional, and energetic make-up, offering a strategic and mechanical way to understand our nature and behaviors.
At its core, Human Design posits that everyone is born with a specific configuration that determines their personal traits. This is represented through the bodygraph, which highlights various centers, channels, and gates, mimicking the Chakra system in scope but unique in application. Each center within the bodygraph governs specific aspects of our being, such as emotions, willpower, or intuition, and these centers can be either defined (fixed and consistent traits) or undefined (areas of potential growth and change).
The system emphasizes the concept of ‘Type’—specifically, your Human Design Type, which describes your role in life and provides strategies for making decisions and interacting with others. These Types (Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, and Reflector) define not only potential personal and interpersonal dynamics but also guide each person in understanding how to correctly respond to life’s challenges.
Human Design also offers a detailed look at the astrological positions at the time of birth, with 64 gates activated in the bodygraph that correlate with the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Each gate and channel in the bodygraph illustrates potential strengths and weaknesses, creating a unique energetic blueprint for each individual. This blueprint can guide personal development by highlighting specific traits and potential challenges.
